The distinguished Serbian violinist’s long artistic journey is best illustrated by an impressive array of achievements: more than 4,000 concerts in some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, Salle Gaveau in Paris, the George Enescu Philharmonic Hall in Bucharest, Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and Dvořák Hall in Prague; performances in more than 45 countries; and numerous major international awards received in Paris, London, Poland, New York, Moscow, Mexico, Budapest, Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Sarajevo and elsewhere.
He has also received Serbia’s most prestigious honours, including the October Award, the April Award, the Vuk Award, the Golden Lyre, the Charter of Patriarch Pavle and the Order of the Karađorđe Star, First Class.
Kolundžija has appeared at renowned festivals in Salzburg, Berlin and Évian, as well as at the Prague Spring Festival, Mexico’s Cervantino Festival, the Bratislava Music Festival, and festivals in Dubrovnik, Ljubljana and Emilia-Romagna. He has also taken part in all the most important festivals in the former Yugoslavia and Serbia, performed at numerous charity concerts and served as a member of FIAM–UNESCO.
His masterful and exceptionally demanding concert projects include The Magnificent Ten, Do You Love Beethoven?, Bravissimo, Maestro Mozart and In Honour of the Great Brahms.
His artistry was admired by such eminent musicians as Henryk Szeryng, David Oistrakh, Yehudi Menuhin, Aldo Ciccolini and Alexis Weissenberg. He is the founder of the Guarnerius Centre of Fine Arts in Belgrade.
Dr Uroš Dojčinović
Dr Uroš Dojčinović, Professor Emeritus, is a guitarist, composer, musicologist, educator and writer. He was born in Belgrade in 1959.
He began studying classical guitar and literature in Belgrade and graduated from the Academy of Music in Zagreb. He subsequently completed postgraduate studies and defended two doctoral dissertations on interdisciplinary musicological topics at the Faculty of Philology and the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade.
Dojčinović’s artistic career encompasses more than 3,500 performances throughout the world, numerous radio and television appearances, and several hundred professional lectures, seminars and masterclasses. He has also served on a variety of national and international juries.
He has published more than 600 professional papers and recorded over 80 releases—including LPs, audio cassettes, CDs and DVDs—for record labels in Europe, the Americas and Asia.
For his wide-ranging artistic work, he has received more than 120 medals, plaques, diplomas and other honours in Serbia and abroad.
Dejan Savić
Dejan Savić was born in Belgrade on 27 June 1957. He is a prominent Serbian conductor, musician, educator and cultural professional.
He received his primary music education in cello and violin and graduated from the double bass department of the Mokranjac Secondary Music School in Belgrade. He earned his degree in conducting from the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. At the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, he became the first person in the institution’s history to obtain a master’s degree in conducting.
Savić began his conducting career in 1981 as a freelance artist. During this period, he taught conducting, choir and orchestra at primary and secondary music schools. He also worked as conductor and artistic director of several choirs, cultural and artistic societies and musical ensembles in Belgrade.
As both an instrumentalist and conductor, he was one of the founders of the Borislav Pašćan Belgrade Youth Philharmonic. From 1989 to 1993, he served as conductor and artistic director of the Niš Symphony Orchestra.
In 1993, he joined the National Theatre in Belgrade as a conductor of its Opera and Ballet. He became Principal Conductor in 2007 and held that position until his retirement in 2022.
From 2001 to 2004, he served as Director of the Opera and Ballet, after which he was appointed General Manager of the National Theatre—the first musician in the institution’s history to hold that position. His first term ended in 2007, when he again became Director of the Opera, remaining in that post until 2011. His second term as General Manager lasted from 2012 to 2018, after which he returned to the position of Principal Conductor and remained there until his retirement.
In 2021, he was appointed Cultural Adviser to the President of the Republic of Serbia. In 2024, he was nominated for membership in the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, becoming the first and, to date, only conductor to be nominated in the nearly two-century history of Serbia’s foremost scientific and artistic institution.
As a conductor, Dejan Savić has worked with every symphony orchestra and opera ensemble in Serbia, as well as the leading ensembles of the former Yugoslavia. He has appeared repeatedly at almost every major festival in Serbia and the region, in addition to participating in numerous important international music events.
His international appearances have taken him to Greece, Israel, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Germany, Romania, Ireland, Albania, England, North Macedonia, Russia, the United States, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Portugal, Slovenia, France, Georgia, Italy, Croatia, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Turkey and Hungary, where he has performed with many distinguished orchestras and opera companies from Europe, the Americas and Asia.
His teaching career includes professorial appointments and numerous masterclasses in European countries including Bulgaria, Portugal and Russia. As a jury member, he has taken part in several prominent international competitions in Italy, Romania, Russia, Bulgaria and elsewhere.
He has delivered lectures on cultural management to major companies and institutions and has served as president or member of the artistic councils and boards of various renowned international festivals and events. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with some of the foremost names in classical music.
Savić has made radio and television recordings in several countries. He has also released LPs, audio cassettes, CDs and DVDs through PGP RTS and other record labels, as well as producing numerous permanent recordings of Serbian composers and soloists for the RTS Sound Archive.
He is a recipient of the Republic of Serbia’s National Recognition for Contribution to Culture, the Vuk Award, the Golden Beočug Award, the Italian Order of the Silver Star for Merit in Culture, the Order of Malta for Cultural Cooperation, the Medal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for Cultural Cooperation, the Award of the Association of Cultural and Artistic Societies, and numerous other honours.
BBB – Belgrade Baroque Band
The Belgrade Baroque Band was founded with the aim of filling a gap in this field of classical music. Bringing together some of Belgrade’s finest musicians, it represents an ideal combination of musicality, experience and youth.
The ensemble’s repertoire features some of the most beautiful works of Baroque music by timeless composers such as Bach, Handel and Vivaldi. It is also open to contemporary composers and works from the Romantic period, while devoting particular attention to Serbian music.
Among the distinguished soloists who have performed with the Belgrade Baroque Band are Jovan Kolundžija, one of the greatest violinists in Serbia’s musical history, and Uroš Dojčinović, a renowned guitarist and one of the pioneers of the instrument in Serbia.
The Belgrade Baroque Band performs with great enthusiasm both in Serbia’s major music centres and throughout the country, fully aware of its artistic role and cultural mission in society.
The ensemble is conducted by leading artists Dejan Savić and Dijana Cvetković, as well as other distinguished musicians of notable standing and experience.
