Theatre Performance “The Lie”

The hit production “The Lie,” starring Miloš Biković, will be performed as part of this year’s BELEF festival at the Sava Centre on 30 August 2026, beginning at 8:00 p.m.

The Lie, which premiered in 2023, was written by Florian Zeller and directed by Nikola Ljuca. It is regularly performed on the Main Stage of the Belgrade Drama Theatre, where tickets sell out quickly. Its BELEF performance at the Sava Centre therefore offers theatre lovers an excellent opportunity to secure their tickets in good time.

Featuring elements of comedy and plenty of unexpected twists, complications and revelations, the production stars Miloš Biković, Tamara Krcunović, Miodrag Radonjić and Jelisaveta Orašanin as two married couples who discover many hidden truths about one another over the course of a single evening.

Many have described The Lie as a phenomenon of the Belgrade Drama Theatre.

“My intention was to work with a carefully selected cast to create a production that lives in the moment—one that draws the audience into what initially appears to be simply an entertaining and provocative comedy about contemporary life. The stage is richly realistic, depicting a middle-class apartment. The actors surrender themselves both physically and emotionally to their fears, neuroses and games. At times, it should feel like a blend of contemporary boulevard theatre and a sitcom,” said director Nikola Ljuca.

Speaking during the production’s guest performances in Croatia at the end of last year, Miloš Biković said:

“As its title suggests, the play’s central theme is the way people present themselves to the world and project an idealised image of who they are. But when we scratch beneath the surface of the comedy, we discover the tragic position of people trying to make their way through life by resorting to lies.

“This is a story about relationships between men and women, relationships between men, friendships, and also the relationship each person has with themselves. At times, audiences will laugh because what they are watching is funny, but more often they will laugh because they recognise situations from their own lives.”
