The monodrama Lulu follows the life of a young woman who, throughout her childhood and youth, endures many forms of manipulation and abuse at the hands of different women and men. Each of them shapes her according to their own needs and interests.

Exposed to psychological and physical abuse, punishment, deprivation of basic needs such as food, water and air, as well as coercion, Lulu becomes the product of other people’s decisions and actions.

The performance is conceived as a reconstruction of her life over the course of a single night. Through her story, the audience is confronted with a series of seemingly minor, everyday actions that leave profound and lasting consequences on another person’s life.

Director’s Note

This monodrama, inspired by Frank Wedekind’s Lulu, explores how a woman is transformed into whatever others demand her to be, until nothing truly her own remains.

This is a faithful adaptation, but it is not a retelling.

It is a reconstruction.

An attempt to expose the mechanism at work.

If you find something funny, feel free to laugh.

This is still a tragedy.

Milan Cerović

Lana Đuričković is an acting student at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade, in the class of Professor Miloš Đorđević and Assistant Professor Tadija Miletić. She also works as a teaching associate in Professor Marina Bukvički’s Stage Movement course.

She has appeared in numerous productions, including Lulu, Richard III and Love Story.
