The project I – a Doll is Marina Bukvički’s doctoral artistic project, created at the Institute for Artistic Dance as part of the doctoral programme in Artistic Dance and Performance.

The project pays tribute to the distinguished Serbian scientist Mileva Marić Einstein, approaching her life from an entirely different perspective.

It is conceived as a form of multimedia communication incorporating audio, video, film and live performance. It therefore consists of two parts presented simultaneously: a 90-minute film and a live performance during which the artist creates visual records on canvases placed throughout the performance space.

This is not only the story of Mileva Marić, a woman who was unjustly left in the shadow of her husband and the society in which she lived. It is also the story of every woman who has experienced, or is currently experiencing, a fate similar to hers.

I – a Doll is a story of love and betrayal, and of everything we are willing to sacrifice simply to be accepted.

It also raises the question that inspired the creation of the project:

“What is the price of love?”
